Fn, some media keys and shortcuts reserved by the browser or OS (e.g. Win, Alt+Tab, Ctrl+W) may not reach the page. A key that does not light up is not necessarily broken.

How to use

  1. Press each key once. Checked keys turn green, keys you are holding turn blue.
  2. Hold several keys together to see how many register at the same time.
  3. Hold a key down to check key repeat, then press Reset to start over.

Limits of a browser keyboard test

  • The Fn key is handled inside the keyboard itself and is never sent to the computer.
  • Shortcuts that the operating system or browser keeps for itself (Windows key, Alt+Tab, Ctrl+W, Cmd+Q and similar) may be blocked before they reach this page.
  • Print Screen on Windows often sends only a key release, so it is shown as checked without staying blue.
  • How many keys register at once depends on the keyboard hardware, connection (USB or Bluetooth) and operating system. Some combinations cannot be detected by design on many keyboards.
  • Keys are identified by their physical position (KeyboardEvent.code). On non-US layouts the printed letter may differ from the label shown here.

FAQ

Is this an on-screen keyboard or a physical keyboard tester?

This is a physical keyboard tester. Press keys on your connected keyboard to see which inputs your browser receives. It does not provide a virtual keyboard for typing with a mouse or touchscreen.

A key does not light up. Is it broken?

Not necessarily. The browser or operating system may be capturing it. Try the key in a text editor or on another computer before deciding it is faulty.

How do I test key rollover (keys pressed at once)?

Hold several keys at the same time. "Pressed now" lists every key the browser receives and "Max at once" keeps the highest count. Results depend on your keyboard and system.

Can I tell left and right Shift, Ctrl and Alt apart?

Yes. Each side lights up its own key on the layout, as long as your browser reports it.

Is what I type saved or sent anywhere?

No. Key presses are processed only inside this page in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent to a server or analytics tool.

Does it work on Mac?

Yes. Cmd and Option are shown in place of Win and Alt. Mac keyboards have no Insert or Print Screen keys, so those stay unchecked.
